Opening of 3rd annual Food Trade Fair, organized by Exhibition Technologies of Japan.  President Ishihara and former Consul General of Japan Toyoei Shigeeda led the opening ceremonies.

Attend the 10th Annual Joint Memorial Service honoring Japanese American soldiers who gave their lives in World War II proving their loyalty to the United States of America. This event, sponsored by the Nisei Veterans Legacy Center is in observance of the 70th Anniversary of the end of World War II.

Networking, simply speaking, is one of the tools that almost every business person aspires to master, but is typically feared or avoided by many. However, before the attendees of the Networking 101 event could face their fears and the challenges of networking, they had to brave torrential rain, a flash flood warning, and the occasional moat to jump over or traverse through.

Led by Chair Tyler Tokioka, President Wayne Ishihara and Vice Chairs Melanie Okazaki and Mark Ibara were invited to meet with Consul General Misawa. This was his first official meeting with the Honolulu Japanese Chamber of Commerce.

“Leadership…It starts with getting in the game.” was the theme illustrated throughout the 11th Annual Inauguration & Generational Award sold-out luncheon event with over 500 attendees. Most notable was the keynote speech by Mr. Colbert Matsumoto, Chairman, Island Insurance, who told the compelling story of the multiple points of leadership that collectively saved the Japanese Cultural Center of Hawaii by raising $9 Million in just a few months. This remarkable success would not have been possible without many individuals deciding to get involved; many of whom were driven by the ‘kachikan’ values; beginning with Mr. Matsumoto, who accepted the daunting leadership role.
