Standing (Program) Committees

Under the leadership and work of committees, the Chamber provides its members with numerous events and programs each year.  The Chamber’s activities are designed to address member interest in leadership training, business development, international programs and networking opportunities.

As a member, we welcome you to join one or more of our standing committees.  Don’t miss this opportunity to get involved and network with fellow Chamber members.

Government Affairs Committee
Chair:  Peter Hamasaki
Maintains Chamber awareness and involvement in government affairs affecting business and the community in general.  It establishes and coordinates the Chamber’s positions on public or legislative issues that best reflect the interest of our members.

Japan Business Relations Committee
Chair:  Rika Hirata
Directs HJCC initiatives in business enhancement and expansion as part of Hawaii’s overall economic development vision for the Pacific, with a focus on Japan.  It plans seminars on topics of interest to the business community.  Determines if business missions to Japan to encourage trade between Hawaii and Japan are appropriate.

Membership Development Committee
Chair:  Blake Isobe
Increases the membership in the Chamber by broadening the membership base so that all business, professional and industrial sectors are represented to ensure financial stability of the Chamber.  Develops strategies for new member recruitment and retention such as Dutch Lunches and Member Tours.

Program & Community Affairs Committee
Chair:  Clayton Hill
Plans and coordinates meaningful activities and programs for the general membership. Annual projects include the Inauguration & Generational Awards Luncheon, Shinnen Enkai (New Year’s Banquet), Art Exhibition and General Membership Gathering.

Small Business Advocacy Committee
Chair:  Allen Komori
Implements policies, procedures, actions that support the development and growth of small business by providing a voice in the Chamber programs related to legislative and regulatory matters, and economic development.  It plans special workshops focused on the needs and interests of small businesses, including the annual Business Solutions seminar and Game Changers event.

Ways & Means Committee
Chair:  Taylor Kirihara
Plans and carries out fundraising events to satisfy the fiscal requirements of HJCC.  Annual events include Chopsticks & Wine and the Samurai Classic Golf Tournament.

Social Groups

Golf Club
Whether you are a scratch golfer or a beginner, you’re invited to participate in the fellowship of the HJCC Golf Club.  It’s a great way to hone your golfing skills, network with other Chamber members and their guests as well as engage in fellowship with everyone at the 19th Puka, partake in “ono-licious” pupus and win prizes too. Contact the HJCC office at 949-5531 if you are interested in joining the HJCC Golf Club or click the link below.

Other Committees

Charitable Corporation
The HJCC Charitable Corporation is a 501c(3) charitable non-profit entity.  They focus on establishing an educational fund to provide scholarships and a community fund to provide donations to deserving entities.  The Charitable Corporation also maintains the Torii Gate at the Moiliili Triangle Park for the City and County of Honolulu.

Laulima – Community Partnership Program
Started in 2012, the Laulima program provides members with fellowship opportunities and leadership experience all while “giving back” to the community.  The first project of support was the Ai on Japan Golf Tournament which raised funds for Hawaii based non-profit organization, Kids Hurt Too.  The Chamber was a major sponsor and provided volunteer assistance at the event.
