By Wayne Ishihara, President
Congratulations to Gregg Mueller for being recognized as a KUROKO awardee! Annually this award is given to a member who has been contributing their volunteer time with the Honolulu Japanese Chamber of Commerce (HJCC) throughout the year. The word KUROKO in Japanese means working in the background. If you are familiar with Kabuki plays you often observe people dressed in black from head to foot on stage in the background holding or moving props. This award we feel characterizes these members.
The selection of these members are done by the HJCC staff and the recognition is done at the annual General Membership Gathering.
Gregg Mueller, broadcast executive, iHeartMEDIA and Past Chair (2004-2005) of the HJCC has been a member for over 40 years. He continues to be active in many different capacities. When asked why have you continued to be active, Gregg said, “It provides local and international business relationships and also friendships. By getting involved you have a sense of camaraderie which motivates you to do more.”
He presently serves as a Board of Director and is an active member of our annual “Commitment to Excellence” Art Exhibition. He is the facilitator for the interview with the featured artist which is filmed and shown on Olelo. He continues to be the emcee at various activities and also attends non-chamber events as our representative.
A WELL DESERVED RECOGNITION!
Congratulations to Chris Anjo for also being recognized as a KUROKO awardee at our recent General Membership Gathering. He is a Business Banking Officer for First Hawaiian Bank and has been a Honolulu Japanese Chamber of Commerce (HJCC) member for 4 years. He has been very active on the committee level. He has served on the General Membership Gathering (Co-Chair), Chopsticks & Wine, Samurai Classic and Game Changers. He is also a member of the Laulima community outreach committee. In the membership area he continues to recruit Junior Chamber members.
When asked why you remain so active Chris said, “I am doing what I love, being active in the community; being a part of something bigger”. He attributes his involvement to members such as Jon Tsukamoto, Melanie Okazaki, Jodi Nozoe Chang and Reid Chung who reached out to him for assistance. He also thanks First Hawaiian Bank; Curt Otaguro and Candice Naito for their support.
Thank you Chris for your support!
