The Pan-Pacific Festival is one of Hawai‘i’s biggest Pacific Rim events. This year’s festival – the 38th annual – will take place June 9-11, 2017 in beautiful Waikīkī.

First held in 1980, Matsuri in Hawaii became known in 1996 as the Pan-Pacific Festival. The tradition lives on in 2017, as the festival continues to celebrate the diverse Pacific Rim cultures through music, crafts, food and dance.

Attendees at the Hoʻolauleʻa will enjoy a second year of the exciting Street Dance Festival. This dance exhibition will showcase dance moves from some of Japan and Hawai‘i’s hottest amateur dance troupes. Making a special appearance is Kento Mori, one of the most successful choreographers and professional dancers in the world, who will provide the performers with top dance tips. He’s worked with various artists like Madonna, Usher, NE-YO, Ciara and Chaka Kahn. You can catch him and his dance moves a second time, as the Pan-Pacific Parade opening act near the Moana Surfrider stage on Sunday, June 11.

This year also marks the second annual Punahele Party at Waikīkī Beach Walk. Hula hālau will choose their favorite songs to dance with one of Hawaiʻi’s treasured musicians, Nā Hōku Hanohano award winner Weldon Kekauoha.

For more hula, relax under the stars and listen to the rolling surf, while you enjoy the beautiful performances of various hālau from Hawaiʻi and Japan at the 17th Annual Pan-Pacific Hula Festival at the Kūhiō Beach Hula Mound all weekend long.

A new location this year for those interested in the Performing Arts Showcases, is the freshly renovated International Market Place. Performances will take place on on Sunday, June 11 from 12 to 3 p.m. The performers for this showcase will be announced in late May.

The festival concludes on Sunday, June 11 with the Pan-Pacific Parade. More than 500 participants will dance, sing or play their way down Kalākaua Avenue, featuring cultural groups from across the Pacific Rim.
