2023 Generational Award
Established in 2005, the Generational Award recognizes local businesses that have made significant contributions to the growth and development of Hawaii’s business and community sectors over two or more generations of ownership. Award recipients and their families are honored at the Chamber’s Inauguration & Generational Award Celebration in July.
2023 Generational Award Honoree
Hawaii National Bank
The Luke Family
Kan Jung Luke, known to most as K.J. Luke, was born and raised in Kohala on the Big Island and grew up tending his father’s general store. He eventually moved to Honolulu and graduated from Saint Louis School, then the University of Hawaii, and Harvard Business School. In 1960, K.J. started Hawaii National Bank to serve Hawaii’s diverse population and the local business community. From the beginning, the bank’s mantra has always been the “Home of Warm-Hearted Bankers” and that remains true to this day, through three generations of family leadership. Today, K.J.’s son Warren Luke serves as Chairman of the Board, and Warren’s son Bryan Luke is President and CEO. With branches on Oahu, Maui and Hawaii Island, Hawaii National Bank is a community bank that specializes in serving locally owned, closely held businesses.
