2024 Generational Award Honoree: Aloha Shoyu Company
HJCC Member since 1970
“Served with Aloha”
Aloha Shoyu began producing this much loved sauce at the end of WWII at a small factory at the corner of Dillingham Boulevard and Waiakamilo Road. With family origins on the Hawaiian island of Lanai, the founders traveled back home to solicit investors from family and friends. In the end five families became the founders of the company in 1946.
It was the second generation that actually laid the foundation for Aloha Shoyu, ushering them to become a major player in the market. Three of the original families, Okita, Tanigawa and Watanabe (Abe), are still active in the business with Brian Tanigawa at the helm. One wise decision for the company was the move to Las Vegas where they built a bigger production and distribution center.
The move to Las Vegas brought the taste of Aloha to the mainland and beyond. Despite the expansion, its officers and management are still committed to maintaining the traditional culture and values of Hawaii.
